Blepharoplasty Eyelift Eyelid Surgery in Sydney
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Blepharoplasty is one of the most powerful procedures in the armamentarium of a facial plastic surgeon to combat ageing and rejuvenate the mid-third of the face. As we age the fat that normally cushions the eyeball can herniate out giving bags under the eyes or puffy appearing eyes – this makes one look older and tired. A similar process occurs to the upper eyelid skin causing excess laxity and drooping of the eyelid.
Most people are concerned that an eyelift will make them look strange or have a “done” appearance. The newer techniques of blepharoplasty (eyelift) that Dr Pincock has learned in the United States allows him to achieve a natural appearing result without visible scarring. http://www.sydneyfacialplastics.com.au/surgeon.html

History of Plastic and Facial Plastic Surgery
Thursday, February 4th, 2010
Most Ancient Plastic Surgery involved nasal surgery in India, British surgeons travelled to India to learn the techniques and adapted these for cosmetic rhinoplasty in the 1800’s.
In World War one, a New Zealand otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon)working in London, Harold Gillies developed many of the techniques of modern facial plastic surgery in treating soldiers suffering from disfiguring facial injuries. His work was expanded upon during WWII by his cousin and former student Archibald McIndo, who modified earlier techniques to treat pilots severe lacerations and facial burns. For more detailed information click here: http://www.abfprs.org/about/h_father.cfm
So from its humble beginnings of a subspecialty of Ear, Nose and Throat. Plastic Surgical techniques were improved and applied to other parts of the body to eventually form its own specialty (Plastic Surgery). The art of facial plastic surgery was retained by the specialty of Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery and is part of its core curriculum. Facial Plastic Surgery was retained by the specialty of Ear, Nose and Throat with surgeons performing cosmetic and reconstructive rhinoplasty and large reconstructions for tumours and skin cancers. for more detailed information please click here: http://www.abfprs.org/about/h_fps_organizes.cfm
In the USA in the 1970’s and 1980’s an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon by the name of Jack Anderson sought out and refined facelifting techniques, teaching them to a new breed of Facial Plastic Surgeons who were only interested in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the head, neck and face. http://www.abfprs.org/about/h_education.cfm Much to the disdain of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) http://www.abfprs.org/about/h_ps_organizes.cfm , this led to some fairly public spats between Jack Anderson and the ASPS with one member writing a derogatory comment about him in an article. This led to a lawsuit which was eventually won by Jack Anderson when the judge declared that his training in facial plastic surgery was superior to that of ASPS and was personally awarded close to 2 million dollars in the 1980’s, a huge sum of money. This money was donated to create the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. http://www.abfprs.org/about/history20.cfm
Dr Pincock is proud to be part of this history, His fellowship director in the USA was Dr Wayne Larrabee a past president of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and who himself was trained by the great Jack Anderson. http://www.sydneyfacialplastics.com.au/surgeon.html

Rhinoplasty in Sydney
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010
Rhinoplasty is a great procedure, firstly most patients have harboured negative thoughts regarding themselves for long periods of time before they summon the courage to come and talk to me about changing the shape of their nose. Secondly the procedure is extremely successful in the right patient to remove those negative thoughts and increase self confidence.
Rhinoplasty myth (1) – not all patients seeking rhinoplasty get an operation – quite often I will have a heart to heart discussion with a patient about what they want to achieve and whether they actually need a rhinoplasty. I often get patients very fixated on small irregularities on their nose THAT DONT NEED FIXING. There is great beauty in imperfection and it often defines a unique and beautiful face. Think Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Grey, Cameron Diaz just to name a few.
Rhinoplasty myth (2) – it will change the way I look and people will notice. NO – you are still you and you will be surprised by how little people will notice even big changes in nose size and shape.
I perform a huge number of Rhinoplasty surgery procedures in Sydney and am very proud of the results I am achieving in rhinoplasty surgery. For more information on the procedure of rhinoplasty click here:

Cheek Implants
Monday, February 1st, 2010
As we age the normal cheek volume descends downwards producing two classic characteristics of ageing.
Firstly the loss of normal cheekbone volume and definition and secondly deeper nasolabial folds
this can be addressed temporarily by fillers – in particular the new voluma from the juvederm range
http://www.sydneyfacialplastics.com.au/injectables.html
for a permanent result patients may opt for cheek implants, these are similar to chin implants but are designed to sit over the cheekbone giving a more prominent cheekbone. They are inserted through a tiny incision on the inside of the cheek and give an amazing result.

Blepharoplasty-Eyelift-Eyelid Surgery
Saturday, January 30th, 2010
Blepharoplasty is a fantastic way to rejuvenate the face. Over the years the fat pad that the eyeball sits on to cushion it in the skull can herniate out from under the eye causing a puffy appearance or bags on the lower eyelid. On the upper eyelid skin can hang down making a person look tired and even obstruct vision.
http://www.sydneyfacialplastics.com.au/cosmetic.html#blepharoplasty
Upper and lower blepharoplasty can be undertaken at the same time and in combination with other procedures, it is a very powerful technique to rejuvenate the face and turn back the clock.
Dr Pincock offers the latest techniques in this surgery that he learned overseas and has brought to Sydney. For more information see this website

Internal Rhinoplasty – Is it scarless? or a scam?
Friday, January 29th, 2010
There are 2 main ways to perform rhinoplasty, through an external incision or through internal incisions inside the nose – this is sometimes called scarless surgery. The reality is that many more manouvres can be performed though an external approach rhinoplasty and therefore in most noses a more natural appearance can be acheived.
http://www.sydneyfacialplastics.com.au/cosmetic.html#rhinoplasty
In some cases an internal approach simply cannot achieve the result you are looking for. The “scar” in external rhinoplasty is so small and discreet in almost all people and cannot be seen on close inspection.
So to answer the question is scarless surgery a scam – sort of. Beware of any surgery that promises “minimal scarring” because it usually means “minimal results”. Any rhinoplasty surgeon should be able to perform internal and external approach rhinoplasty and may have a preference for one over another but should be able to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of both.

Chin Implant
Friday, January 29th, 2010
Chin position on profile is a very important determinant of facial harmony. A strong chin denotes a powerful confident man and an attractive beautiful woman. This is often found in cartoons and caricature’s which depict superhero’s with strong jawlines and weak people with a receding chin. A weak chin can be easily corrected by a chin implant with or without rhinoplasty to address a patients overall facial harmony www.sydneyfacialplastics.com.au/cosmetic.html#chin
A chin implant can be placed through an external or internal incision and is a day stay procedure.
