Eyelid cosmetic surgery in Sydney by Dr Tobias James Pincock

June 15th, 2011

Eyelid cosmetic surgery is known by many different names. The correct medical term is upper or lower blepharoplasty. When support needs to be given to the lower lid it is performed by a procedure known as a canthopexy or canthoplasty. Other names for an upper or lower blepharoplasty are: upper and lower blephs, eyetuck surgery, eyelift or simply “getting your eyes done”.

Blepharoplasty is a fantastic procedure and I am very proud of the results I am able to achieve using minimally invasive techniques I have learned both here in Australia during my early training and later on my fellowship and since I have returned to practice. There has been a major shift in thinking on eye-lift procedures, away from highly invasive procedures with a high chance of scarring and ectropian or other complications.

One of the most important features of a modern day blepharoplasty is the conservation of fat. Obviously fat in the wrong place causes puffy eyes and this needs to be removed or moved, but over judicious resection of fat hollows the eye making the patient look drawn and sunken with an 80’s Hollywood look that is undesirable.

Eyelid surgery is performed under a general anaesthetic and is a day only procedure. People can return to work after 5 days when sutures are removed. Often I find the motivation for an eyelid procedure is not the desire to appear younger but to not look tired. But no-one has complained yet about looking younger !

Dr Pincock endorses Rationale Skin Care Range

June 14th, 2011

I have been looking for a skin care range for quite some time as patients are constantly asking me what creams work and what dont. I have long been of the opinion that the vast majority were a complete waste of money being nothing more than sorbolene cream with a perfume and a slick advertising campaign.

There are 3 main ways to reduce ageing with skin care

  1. prevention of further damage via a high quality moisturiser with a SPF added
  2. repair of previous damage by topical creams or serums (retin A type creams and vitamin C serum)
  3. removal of damaged layers by skin resurfacing (laser, chemical peel or dermabrasion)

Rationale Skin care is an excellent choice. It is not too expensive and it actually works.

For more information on our Rationale skin care range please give us a call on 02 88833699 or visit our Taylor Clinic Website at www.taylorclinic.com.au

Diced or Crushed Cartilage graft in Revision Rhinoplasty

June 3rd, 2011

In Revision or secondary rhinoplasty, often the end result is a harsh look with significant asymmetry, this can be particularly evident in thin skinned individuals. Crushed or diced cartilage can be used to soften the nose and  create a more natural look, asymmetry can also be addressed. It can also be used to gain projection, and achieve up or down rotation. It is particularly advantageous in the nasal tip.

Dr Pincock uses this technique in all rhinoplasty operations but it is a critical manoeuvre during revision or secondary rhinoplasty.  Because he is a fully trained ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) Surgeon his ability to locate and remove cartilage from the inside of the nose and ear is very useful for revision rhinoplasty.

Otoplasty Surgery in Sydney by Sydney Otoplasty Surgeon – Dr Tobias Pincock

June 3rd, 2011

Otoplasty is an operation commonly performed to set the ears back, also known by its more old fashioned name “ear pinning” its also known as “prominent ear correction” or “ear reshaping” or “ear sculpting”. Dr Pincock commonly peforms Otoplasty surgery in the Sydney area and is renowned for delivering expert natural results. The first step in seeking out Otoplasty in Sydney is to see Dr Pincock in one of his Facial Cosmetic Clinics. He has 3 main clinics, Bella Vista in Sydney’s Northwest, Darling Point in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and Wollongong on the South Coast.

During the initial consultation the patients age and general health is considered and then a detailed examination of the ear. Most ear correction is for a loss of the normal anti-helical fold, however a deep conchal bowl or abnormal earlobe are other common reasons for ear reshaping. The best age for Ear correction is age 5-6. This is because the ear cartilage is still soft and pliable and the ear has reached approximately 80% of its adult size.

A variety of techniques can be employed, including non invasive techniques. One of the most reliable techniques is a combination of a Furnas conchal setback suture and Mustarde anti-helix sutures.

The operation takes approximately 1.5-2 hours and is performed under a general anaesthetic.

Rhinoplasty Specialist in Sydney

May 29th, 2011

Rhinoplasty is an operation that should only be performed by a rhinoplasty expert or rhinoplasty specialist. Most ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeons and Plastic surgeons have little or no experience with cosmetic rhinoplasty in Sydney due to the training schemes being largely based on the public hospital system. ENT trainee’s will get exposure to rhinoplasty procedures through the septorhinoplasty procedure for nasal breathing as cosmesis is corrected as well and rotation through private hospitals and plastic trainees will get exposure through de-gloving injuries and rotation through private hospital attachments. Therefore when seeking a rhinoplasty in Australia or Sydney you simply have to look past the doctor’s basic qualifications. FRACS is a start which means they are a qualified surgeon and being a member of ASOHNS or ASPS is better meaning they are an ENT surgeon or a plastic surgeon. However this is still not enough, your surgeon should be a facial plastic surgeon or a plastic surgeon with specialty training in rhinoplasty.

If you have any sinus disease or nasal obstruction you simply have to see an ENT surgeon with Facial Plastic Training.

Dr Pincock is a rhinoplasty expert and has dedicated a large part of his training to be a rhinoplasty specialist in Sydney. He completed a coveted fellowship in the US in facial plastic surgery and sat the US board exams in Facial Plastic Surgery, gaining him acceptance into the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgeons, this Federation currently at the time of this post has only 3 Australian members. Dr Pincock is simply higher trained in this procedure than most other surgeons offering this procedure and that means that as a specialist in rhinoplasty he is able to offer a more natural, more aesthetically pleasing nose than most other surgeons and is able to address your nasal obstruction and sinus disease simultaneously.

Mini-Facelift procedure – New Technique By Dr Tobias Pincock

May 29th, 2011

In the past there has been several types of Facelift. On one end of the spectrum min-lift procedures that offered minimal downtime and great results that just did not deliver the results that patients wanted. On the other end of the spectrum deep-plane facelifts are very good for results particularly for heavily jowled and heavy necks but the downtime is high (6 to 8 weeks). I am performing a combination lift that takes the best parts of the deep plane facelift with other types of facelifts to provide a long lasting result with minimal downtime.

What is a nosejob, nose job, rhinoplasty anyway ?

May 27th, 2011

what some people refer to as a nosejob or nose job is more correctly called a rhinoplasty.

A rhinoplasty is to change the underlying structure and therefore the shape and function of the nose.

A rhinoplasty in sydney is performed by a surgeon who is qualified to perform rhinoplasty procedures, this is usually an ear, nose and throat surgeon with appropriate facial plastic training or a plastic surgeon with a particular interest in rhinoplasty.  The cost of rhinoplasty  in Sydney depends on the complexity of the nasal procedure and whether it is a complete reconstructive rhinoplasty, revision or secondary rhinoplasty or primary rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty may be cosmetic or functional.

Rhinoplasty is also called nasal reshaping, nasal sculpting or nasal cosmetic surgery

Deep Plane Facelift in Sydney

May 21st, 2011

Sometimes the terms of facelift are difficult for the patient seeking a face-lift of other ageing face procedure to understand. Many poorly trained surgeons will advocate only one type of procedure as a cure all for all types of people. This just is simply not possible. There is no way for example a short scar face lift or MACS lift is going to be suitable for a very heavily jowled turkey neck type patient.

This is why it is important to see a specialist, I get a huge amount of calls from people seeking a price on a thread lift, S-lift, MACS lift without having seen anyone and when I actually see them often they either a) don’t need a surgical procedure or b) the procedure they thought they needed is not the correct one.

This is an example of a Deep Plane Facelift I did for a lady who had had significant weight loss and needed a true deep plane facelift with neck lift

Deep Plane Facelift

Rowena Wallace - Non surgical Facelift

This patient needed a deep plane facelift and this is her result only 6-8 weeks post surgery. Other types of patients will not require a deep plane facelift and may only require a short scar neck lift or eye lifting procedure, this is the case with Rowena Wallace whom I performed a non-surgical facelift, minimal scar necklift and blepharoplasty on (see below)

Rowena Wallace Gets a Facelift By Dr Tobias Pincock

May 21st, 2011

Recently a good friend of Rowena Wallace reached out to me and told me the predicament Rowena was in, having been a fan of her show when I was younger I was only to happy to help. Rowena was always an attractive woman with great bone structure but the stress of life had caught up with her with the inevitable ageing setting in. I first saw Rowena and she really did not want any surgery that was going to take too long to heal from so we opted for a minimalistic approach with an extremely short scar neck lift, upper and lower eyelift (blepharoplasty) and some dermal filler injections. Its hard to believe but Rowena had her injections the same day as the post-op photo’s. My new technique of injection is basically without swelling. Have a look at the photo’s for yourself.

New Technique for Nasolabial Dermal Filler

October 23rd, 2010

In the past Nasolabial folds have been injected with filler simply by putting a sausage of dermal filler within the fold. this gives a reasonable result when the face is at rest but can result in an unusual or odd appearance when the face is dynamic.

Dr Pincock is using a newer technique which uses less filler, lasts longer and gives a much more natural appearance when using non surgical facial rejuvenation.
